At Black Forest Racing, we live, breath and dream about Porsches. John Forbes, the founder of Black Forest Racing began working for Porsche in 1972 and quickly became a factory trained and certified Porsche technician. He has spent his life maintaining, repairing and racing Porsches of all sizes, from 356’s to twin turbo rockets. In fact, people wonder if he might have a Porsche crest tattooed on his heart.
John’s 2.5 liter 914-6 (green and orange, Number 57) won over 35 straight SCCA races. He retired the car for 5 years, came out of retirement, and then set 4 track records prior to receiving the coveted SCCA driver of year award in 2001. In addition, Black Forest Racing’s GT\2 911 won 5 consecutive SCCA championships.
John has been an active member of the Porsche Club of America (PCA) since 1973, serving as a technical consultant, a certified driving instructor and a club officer, working side by side with national club leaders such as Pete Tremper, Prescott Kelly, Ken Fengler, and his good friend, Bruce Anderson.
After 35+ years of engine-building experience, in 2006, John introduced the John Forbes Signature Engine series, built to his own specifications; they have proven to be fast and reliable. Road-tested at the 2006 week-long Targa Newfoundland Rally Race: after 7 grueling days of running at top speed, no repairs or adjustments were needed.
